It's a given that you need to read this before posting up a character application. Really, it applies more to original characters, more than anything. Official, Canon Characters (example: Takato or Red), really to play them, all you need to do is write up an application for them. With canon characters, it's usually a good idea to have a good grasp on their personality if you're going to apply as them. And players ARE allowed to challenge other players if they think they can do a better job of playing the character than their current player. That much should be known.
In the way of official characters...
Names
Try to use regular 'everyday' names. However, feel free to Japanese names along with 'dub' names (XD). Just don't try to use complicated names like something you see in a fantasy game or something.
Also, it'll help if you know what the Japanese names mean. Japanese names have meaning. For example, Sora means 'sky'. Taichi, the ichi means one (Zeromaru: and Zeromaru means two zeroes, so what do you get? THE 100% COMBINATION!!)
Course, some characters just have a nickname based on colors or minerals.
Originality
Please try to be original. We don't need fifty different goggle-heads running around and stuff. It pretty much ruins Tai, Takato, and Davis' uniqueness. Sides, look at Marcus; he doesn't wear goggles. We already have a bunch of chosen from each Digimon series with goggles.
Also, lets not have a butt-load of DDs with Agumons or any of the other known Digimon the DD or Tamers have. Try to come up with a new Digimon, or use other Digimon out there. Like the goggleheads, we already have like over five Agumons.
One more thing! Characters (OCs we mean) cannot, under any circumstances, be related to any of the main characters. They cannot be befriended or be an arch-villain/rival for of the main characters from the start. Friendship or otherwise to the main characters must be earned in the story threads.
Expys
A character based on a certain other fiction is allowed... but try and mix the character into the RP and don't make in a crossing over character. For example:
Dru is based on Drusilla from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and while they may both be psychos who like the darkness, Dru has her own quirks (Not to mention, she seems more psychotic and murderous)!
If you happen to not have a scanner or can't/don't want to draw and just found an image of a certain character that could work for you own but with different personliaty and stuff, that is ok.
Balancing Abilites
Don't make any Gary Stus or Mary Sues
Mons
OC's can't have fully evolved digimon. They can only have up to champions, we may let slid in an ultimate depending on its base form.
OC trainers can't have Legendary Pokemon at the start. The only ones who can have legendary pokemon without capturing one are canon-trainers who did, like trainers from the Battle Frontier.
When making an OC mon, try not to have it be all power, namely if its at a low rank. Unless its Lucemon, a rookie can't alter space and time.
Levels
Oh yes, we are doing levels, similar to Pokemon games. Now you're probably asking...how would I know what levels my Pokemon or Digimon can start with? Well, you provide the Digimon or Pokemon you want to start with, we set up what levels they'll be at, and their stats.
