"Yeah, well, if someone who doesn't even know what a Pokemon is, he'll probably get lost, afterwards, and get hurt."

"He didn't seem stupid enough to just go off the path for no reason... If he's that intent on getting a starter-" "Tota!" he tugged on his trainer's pants, pointing... As Shirou and Mizuho zoomed right past on the main path, the latter dragging the former along. "... Huh. He's done already," he blinked. "And no worse for wear... That girl, on the other hand..."

And she was suddenly gone.

"Hey, what the...?! She ran off on me!" Emerald grumbled, as he realized she was gone. "Oh, well... I can catch up later. Hey, Totodile, let's make sure those two are alright..." @totadile@ "Tota!" He nodded in agreement.
Not that long after... He looked at the long grass as he walked, wondering what creatures lurked in the wild. The critters he did see he didn't really think suited him all that much. His Pokemon blinked, as he spotted a pair of figures up ahead. "Hey! You got your starter, huh? That was quick," Emerald remarked, as he and Totodile approached. "Shirou and Mizuho, right?" "Yeah. And you're Emerald, if I remember correctly?" "Yeah. If you really are telling the truth about being from another world and not knowing a thing about Pokemon... Well, it would be irresponsible of me to let you just go along cluelessly," Emerald said, trying to make excuses. "Since we've become trainers at the same time... I guess I wouldn't mind if we went together for a bit so I can show you guys the ropes. That way, you can become worthy opponents for me later when we battle!" He snickered, knowing better. "I guess you would know more about Pokemon than us..."

She rushed up. "...geez, you run fast..."

"Well, I thought we would have to catch up with the others, but..." "I was supposed to be catching up to YOU guys," Emerald remarked, "But you guys rush around like Pikachu chasing cheese on a string." Ignoring Emerald's simile, he asked, "What happened to the other girl?" "She ran on ahead after catching a Maril. I don't remember THEM showing up on route 29 in the games, but whatever..." "... A what?" He groaned. "Oh, boy..."

"Marill? Is that some kind of new ice cream flavor?"

"Well... Just let me show you," Emerald groaned, as he lead them over towards the pond where Lyra had caught one. There were still some of them in there. "Wow, that's... Interesting," Shirou blinked, "To think Pokemon came in such varieties..." "I wouldn't recommend taking them on as your first fight. Your starter is a fire-type, they're water-types. Fire is weak to water. Now, if you took on that girl's Chikorita after training your Cyndaquil to learn Ember, that would be a whole different story - fire beats grass." He blinked. "Fire, grass, and water... What types are there?" Shirou asked. "And... Ember?" "There are 17 types that each Pokemon can have two of at most," Emerald explained. "Normal, Fire, Fighting, Water, Flying, Grass, Poison, Electric, Ground, Psychic, Rock, Ice, Bug, Dragon, Ghost, Dark, and Steel." "That many...?!" "As well, Pokemon can learn 'moves' that they can use in battle, which each have a specific type, which vary in effectiveness depending on your opponent's type. Let's see what this little guy can learn..." He pulled out his PokeGear, which he had an app handy for looking up Pokemon information, "Cyndaquil starts off with Tackle and Leer. It'll learn Smoke Screen, Ember, and Quick Attack, next, before evolving." "... Evolving? You lost me." He rubbed his temples, "They're just total newbies, Emerald... You can get through this... Look, it happens by itself when your Pokemon is strong enough. It's a good thing, let's leave it at that. What I just taught you should be more than enough for you to get started on your training."

(Had to give Lyra her trademark Marill somehow. Also, we're still in the town) Nearby, the bushes were rustling. "Eggs!" A single egg-like creatures exclaimed. "Exegg!" Another said, popping out. "Exeggcute! Exeggcute!" Several more appeared, until there was a total of six bouncing together.

He turned to see the Pokemon, "What the...?!" "Exeggcute, huh? Alright, let's see you put what I taught you into practice." "Right, then... Cyndaquil, let's see what you can do." "Quil!" The little starter's back flared up, as he stepped forward.
